Vermont’s state auditor says he has a plan to prevent embezzlement and detect it when it happens.
Auditor Tom Salmon and a group of others who’ve been studying the issue will present their findings to lawmakers today. Salmon says they will recommend that his office be given the authority to create a checklist of internal controls to be used by organizations that get state funds.
Salmon will appear along with Milton Clerk-Treasurer John Cushing, Rutland Treasurer Wendy Wilton and others before the House Government Operations committee to present their plan. Salmon announced recently he’s weighing a run against U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders next year.
