Classes are getting underway in many schools around the state this week. While some Vermont school districts started classes last week – and others will not convene until after Labor Day – many welcomed students back on Monday.

Fall classes also got underway at the University of Vermont Monday morning.

The Burlington Free Press reports 24,00 students make up the freshman class that was welcomed in a convocation ceremony at Patrick Gym Sunday night.

Collectively, the class of 2016 has the highest average SAT scores of any class in the school’s history. Roughly one-quarter of the freshman class are Vermonters. The class also includes students from 40 other states and 10 countries.
