(Host) Governor Peter Shumlin has chosen a leader in the Legislature to head the Department of Vermont Health Access.

Representative Mark Larson is chairman of the House Health Care Committee and helped guide the governor’s health initiative into law.

When Larson becomes commissioner, he’ll be in charge of all publicly funded health insurance programs, including Medicaid.

Shumlin said Larson will also play a key role in moving the state’s health care reform efforts forward, including setting up Green Mountain Care, the state-run health insurance system envisioned in this year’s legislation.

Larson will replace Susan Besio as commissioner.
