Governor Shumlin is highlighting the upcoming "hackathon" and "tech jam" as ways to bring high-paying, high-tech jobs to the state.

Beginning Friday, teams will compete in Vermont’s second Hackathon, in which computer programmers will compete to develop computer applications that will benefit the state.

Shumlin made the announcement Wednesday at the Winooski headquarters of My-Web-Grocer. The company, along with Dealer-dot-com and Fairpoint Communications, uses the competition as a way to recruit high-tech employees.

Next weekend, the Champlain Mill will host the Vermont Tech Jam, a two-day job fair for high-tech companies seeking employees.

Governor Shumlin has also declared October "Tech Month" in Vermont.
