South Burlington Votes Against F-35

The South Burlington City Council has voted against a proposal that would base military flight jets at Burlington International Airport.

The council voted 4 to 1 on Monday night to reject locating the new F-35 jet fighters at the airport.

Similar meetings also were being held in Burlington, Williston and Winooski. The communities fall within the area shown in a recent environmental impact study as likely to experience noise levels as "incompatible" under Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

It wasn’t clear what effect the vote would have on U.S. Air Force’s decision, which is expected to be made later this year.
