The Springfield School District is planning to ask voters for permission to get rid of four school properties in the town.

A nonprofit group is hoping to preserve what is known as the North School, which for decades has been a recreation area for Springfield residents.

The Rutland Herald says the school district is awaiting appraisals and surveys of all the properties.

School Board Chairman Larry Kraft said even if the board receives permission from the voters, it would not dispose of the properties until it receives the results of the appraisals and the surveys.

The vote will be held on Town Meeting Day in March.
