(Host) The head of the Vermont State Hospital is stepping down. Terry Rowe says she is leaving the post she has held for seven years to take another job in state government.

Rowe said in an email to her staff that the state’s new vision for mental health services under Gov. Peter Shumlin prompted her to rethink whether she wanted to continue in the job.

Rowe’s departure comes amid ongoing concerns about staff morale and federal certification of the aging, 54-bed facility.

Vermont Mental Health Commissioner Christine Oliver tells the Burlington Free Press that Rowe will stay on until a replacement can be found.
