The state of Vermont is going to buy lands along the Clyde River in Orleans County as a way to ensure public access.

The area between Echo Lake and Lake Memphremagog includes a series of ponds and lakes and has some of the best fishing in Vermont.

The deal between the Vermont Department of Forest Parks and Recreation and Great Bay Hydro is expected to close within several months.

The purchase price cannot be announced until after the deal has been finalized.

Great Bay Hydro bought the Clyde River lands and the hydro dam from Citizens Energy several years ago.
