When tax cuts are factored in, the value of the federal economic stimulus to Vermont could come to about $1.3 billion.

That’s the word from the White House and the office of Vermont U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, who says Medicaid and other direct funding benefits will total about $722 million.

The White House also estimates that the law signed yesterday by President Barack Obama will create some 8,000 jobs in Vermont.

Nationwide, that figure is expected to be 3.5 million.
