UVM Faculty Union Claims Gender Discrimination

The University of Vermont’s faculty union says it has filed a grievance alleging gender discrimination in nursing school salaries.

In a complaint filed with the Vermont Labor Relations Board on Tuesday, United Academics claims UVM has discriminated against five female assistant clinical professors who the union says made much less than a male colleague with similar credentials who was hired two years ago.

UVM spokesman Enrique Corredera says school officials have reviewed the matter and believe the discrepancy is due to market-related factors, not discrimination.
