The chief of the Bennington Rural Fire Department Joseph Hayes, says his crews have fought at least two blazes that burned a combined 10 acres. The Readsboro Fire Department had 25 firefighters battling a fire that consumed 10 acres of a field and a section of woods.

The Bennington Banner reports there have been three wildfires in Shaftsbury this spring, damaging about an acre each.

The National Weather Service has a red flag warning in effect for central and northern Vermont from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. A combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels can spark fires.
