(Host) State senators say Vermont school children should be required to learn CPR.
They gave preliminary approval Tuesday morning to a bill that would make the teaching of cardiopulmonary resuscitation mandatory.
Some senators say they worry about the state imposing mandates on schools.
Senator Randy Brock says he’d normally oppose mandates, but he says this case is different.
(Brock) "As I look at what we’re asking here today, it’s very rare that this body has the ability to do something that actually can save a human life. We aren’t called upon to do that very often. We’re called upon to do that here. And for that reason I think this is something that should pass. And I will be voting in favor of it."
(Host) The Senate approved the bill on a voice vote. Senators still have to vote once more before sending the proposal on to the House.
