For the better part of two decades, plans have been made, unmade, redrawn and reconfigured for a Wal-Mart store in St. Albans. Some thought the day would never arrive when the retail outlet would be built. For others, they only hoped that would be the case.

But in July, ground will be broken on the St. Albans Wal-Mart, just off of Exit 20 of I-89. And about a year after that, it will finally open for business. The 150,000-square-foot store will be the largest Wal-Mart in Vermont.

As the groundbreaking draws near, real estate developer Jeff Davis discusses his vision for Vermont’s commercial development and the 20-year process that it took for the retail store to become a reality.
