Waterbury Village To Vote Whether To Retain Police Force

Residents in the village of Waterbury will vote in November on whether to abolish their local police department.

The village has merged its fire and public works departments with those of the adjacent town of Waterbury. But the town has declined so far in joining to support the local police department.

Village Trustees President Skip Flanders says the vote is a chance for village leaders to learn from residents whether they want to continue with the police force, which currently has a chief and two officers, though one of the officer jobs is vacant.

Village Trustees voted last night to put the question on the November ballot.
