The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation says applications for 2010 Watershed Grants are due by Dec. 4.

The Department’s Rick Hopkins says the grants are available to municipalities, local or regional governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and citizen groups.

They can be awarded for projects that protect or restore water quality, shorelines, or fish and wildlife habitats.

Watershed Grants are a joint project of the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department and Department of Environmental Conservation. It is funded by Vermont Conservation License Plates.

Since 1998 the program has funded 255 projects. The maximum grant next year will be $20,000.
