Congressman Peter Welch will start Thanksgiving week with a visit to a food bank in Barre.

The Vermont Democrat will hear about the growing problem of hunger in Vermont in his stop at the Vermont Foodbank on Monday.

Accompanied by Foodbank CEO John Sayles, Welch will deliver remarks and hear from Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger Executive Director Marissa Parisi before helping the food bank’s staff prepare for Thanksgiving.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 10.2 percent of Vermont households struggled with hunger or "food insecurity," which means that they lack consistent access to nutritious foods.
