(Host) The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is asking for the public’s help in finding bats in Rutland County.

Biologists wants to know about bats living in attics, barns, garages, or other buildings as it gauges the number of bat colonies remaining in the county.

Officials are especially interested in learning about little brown bats, which have been devastated by white nose syndrome, a mysterious disease that has killed more than a million bats in the eastern and southern U.S.

The bat is now listed as endangered in Vermont.

Biologists hope to monitor the population over time or move the bats to prevent them from being harmed.

The department is asking the public to report bats by filling out a report on its website or calling 802-786-0098
