The 900-acre Maquam Bog in Swanton can be kind of difficult to traipse around, being a bog.  But in winter, ice makes the journey easier and the Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge hosts a few guided tours.

Greg Simard grew up in Swanton and worked at the Refuge for a few years after graduating from UVM. He still volunteers there and makes sure to visit the bog at least once every winter. We caught up with him for a tour before ice out.

Note: This Saturday evening, the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting an Owl Prowl. Information about events at the refuge can be found on the Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge website.
