Barnet voters have decided to
keep an ordinance that allows all terrain vehicles to use some town roads. The
vote was prompted by a
petition proposing to ban ATV’s on public roads.
New
Hampshire Fish and Game officials say a 14-year-old Vermont girl was seriously injured when the all-terrain
vehicle she was driving was hit by a motorcycle on a trail in Hinsdale, New Hampshire.
All-terrain vehicles in Vermont will no longer be allowed on state land. The Agency of Natural Resources is repealing a rule that permits ATVs on public land because it says the state doesn’t have enough resources to enforce against illegal activity.
The
Shumlin administration has officially proposed repealing a rule that allows
all-terrain vehicles on state land. The announcement has pleased environmentalists and
disappointed ATV riders.
Burlington Free Press reporter Candace Page says despite a decision by the Shumlin administration to back away from allowing limited use of ATVs on state lands, a trail in Island Pond will be permitted.
Governor Shumlin has tapped Chuck Ross as Secretary of Agriculture, citing his experience as a farmer, legislator and aide to Senator Patrick Leahy. Shumlin says he wants to invest in infrastructure and aggressively market Vermont food products.
Governor
Jim Douglas says his administration will brush aside legislative opposition and
allow all terrain vehicles to use state land. The
administration’s plan could face a legal challenge.
A Vermont legislative committee that reviews rules issued by
the executive agencies of state government will consider whether to allow
all-terrain vehicles on state-owned land.
