The Nuclear
Regulatory Commission is agreeing to extend the relicensing period for two
nuclear power plants in part to allow time to study the storage of spent fuel
rods.
The Massachusetts
attorney general is appealing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s rejection of
concerns about possible accidents or sabotage involving the spent radioactive
fuel pools at the Pilgrim and Vermont Yankee nuclear plants.
Attorneys general
from 17 states, including Vermont, and several environmental groups are taking
the EPA back to court to try to force it comply with a Supreme Court ruling
that rebuked the Bush administration for inaction on global warming.
