New England’s governors and premiers from eastern Canadian
Provinces have promised to work together to cut greenhouse gases and boost
public transportation in the region. The governors and premiers
met on Monday in Burlington, where they called for a regional approach to
acquiring renewable electricity.
Governor Peter Shumlin will
host the New England governors and Eastern Canadian premiers in Burlington later this summer. This week, the leaders’
staff met to discuss the opportunities and obstacles to reaching those goals
with more renewable energy projects.
At a select board meeting in Derby, approximately 50 people were present when the town’s
ad hoc Wind Committee submitted their unanimous recommendation that the Select Board
oppose the proposed Derby Wind Line project.

Renewable energy advocates
worry that a state fund that has fueled the growth of Vermont’s clean energy industry is running out of money. Gov.
Peter Shumlin says he has a plan to replenish the fund through a new generation
tax on Vermont Yankee.
The
Shumlin administration and legislative leaders have proposed a major overhaul
in how Vermont encourages renewable energy. The effort has touched off a debate about who actually
benefits from Vermont’s existing clean power projects.
