Town officials in Sunderland
are
reaching out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on behalf of concerned
property owners who say the agency’s new flood plain map is insufficient.
Smart meter technology allows customers to save electricity, and gives utilities the ability to respond quickly to power outages. But the wireless meters have also raised health and privacy concerns, and now voters in several southern Vermont towns will get a chance to weigh in at next month’s town meetings.

the debate over federal funding for disaster relief has been resolved for now,
many are fed up with being caught in the middle of congressional standoffs.
The town of Sunderland will keep its elementary school open, for the time being at least. Voters defeated a petition Tuesday to close the school and tuition children to surrounding towns.
