FairPoint transition may mean phone change delays

The Vermont Public Service Department says residents or businesses making changes to their telephone service may see some delays in the next few weeks because of major changes involving Verizon and FairPoint Communications.

FairPoint Communications reluctantly agreed to a two-month delay in completing its takeover of Verizon’s northern New England landlines after a consultant funded by regulators expressed concern about FairPoint’s readiness to assume full control.

N.H. regulators approve Verizon-FairPoint deal

New Hampshire regulators have approved the sale of Verizon’s landline phone and Internet service in northern New England to North Carolina-based FairPoint Communications. The regulators say they believe FairPoint has shown that the proposed deal is for the public good.
