Governor Peter Shumlin wants
the Vermont Lottery Commission to take a serious look at developing online
gaming opportunities. A number of states are
exploring online gambling after the U.S. Justice Department dropped its long
standing opposition to the idea.
An executive with The Vermont Country Store
will become the head of the Vermont Lottery. Greg Smith will replace Executive Director
Alan Yandow, who announced in February that he was retiring.
The
Vermont Lottery is exploring a number of options to help boost interest in its
games, because sales over the past few years have been relatively flat.
