The
state Supreme Court ruled Friday that the
town of Hartford must turn over records about a 2010 incident when a
man was beaten, pepper-sprayed and dragged from his own home by town police. The
court’s decision reverses a lower court ruling that restricted full access to
the records.
The Vermont Supreme Court has rejected the
appeal of a slain 12-year-old girl’s father, who claimed the ex-wife of the
suspect was negligent in his daughter’s death and that her insurance company
should pay damages.

created when Justice Denise Johnson announced her retirement.
Dealing
with the aftermath of Irene has delayed Governor Peter Shumlin’s timetable for
filling a vacancy on the Vermont Supreme Court. But it’s likely that the Governor will name a new
justice by the end of the month.
