Captain Richard Phillips of Underhill was hailed as a hero when he volunteered himself as a captive in order to protect his crew after his ship was boarded by pirates off the coast of Somalia.  After his dramatic rescue Phillips and his family became instant international celebrities.  Today Phillips is still dealing with his fame:  There are book and movie projects and he’s in demand as a consultant on maritime security.  We’ll talk with Captain Phillips and his neighbor and fellow Merchant Marine Michael Willard – who helped Phillips family through the ordeal.  Email your questions and comments to vermontedition@vpr.net.

Also, we’ll hear about an exhibit at Dartmouth that
explores the effects of Agent Orange on the people of Vietnam. Sculptor
Keisha Luce traveled to Southeast Asia this year in search of the descendants of those exposed to the herbicide during the 1960s.
