Farmers have been getting more money for their milk over the
past year, but high fuel prices and other factors have doubled the cost of
production in many cases. We take a look at how Vermont’s dairy farms are faring in today’s
economy. Our guests are both in the dairy business: Beth Kennett runs Liberty Hill
Farm in Rochester with her husband and two sons, and Ralph McNall milks
Holsteins at Two Rivers Farm in Fairfax (He’s also president of the St. Albans
Coop). (Listen)

Also on the program, we talk with Vermont author David Goodman about his
new book, cowritten with his sister, radio host Amy Goodman. It’s called
Standing up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times. (Listen)

And Walter
Parker recalls Vermont
composer Ernest Stires, a much loved mentor and musician who died last week.(Listen)
