It’s that time of year when you spot cars on the road with
fir trees tied to their roofs.  The
annual purchase of a Christmas tree is a matter of tradition for many in our
region, but it’s also big business.  Vermont
ranks 7th in the nation for total trees harvested, with about
168,000 trees harvested each year.

We take
a closer look at the industry with the head of the New Hampshire-Vermont Christmas Tree Association, Bob White.  We find out who’s farming, where our trees end
up, and we help you tell your Balsams from your Fraser firs. Listen

Also, Rabbinical student and UVM visiting Rabbi, Joseph Berman looks at the story of Hanukkah from several different perspectives. Listen

And, every year VPR Classical host Walter Parker keeps track
of performances of Handel’s Messiah in the region, and he joins us to highlight
the best ones this year. Listen
