Health Dept. Aims To Raise Vaccination Rate

Parents in Vermont have a legal right not to get their kids vaccinated, and the number of parents opting out has risen since 2007. Now, six percent of Vermont school-age kids have not had their shots, the fifth highest rate in the county. We talk with Christine Finley, who manages the Health Department’s Immunization Program, and Dr. Jerry Larrabee, Medical Director of University Pediatrics at Fletcher Allen Health Care, about what impact this has on public health, and why her department wants to reverse the trend.
