Homesteading conjures images of a life of complete self-sufficiency:  living off the grid and  growing your own food.  But there is no easy definition of the practice and these days there are many different approaches.

We’ll talk about how we define modern homesteading and what draws people to the lifestyle with Rebecca Kneale Gould, Associate Professor of Religion at Middlebury College and author of "At Home in Nature:  Modern Homesteading and Spiritual Practice in America" and Philip Ackerman-Leist, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Green Mountain College. Also in the program, a Brattleboro
man recently won the New Yorker magazine’s cartoon caption contest. VPR’s Mitch
Wertlieb puts aside his own competitive envy to talk with Mike Jerald about his
winning caption.
