Jim Leach, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, speaks at the State House as part of Farmers’ Night and his 50-state “Civility Tour.” He joins us to discuss the state of civil discourse in the country and what he’s learned on his tour. The humanities are also facing challenges with funding cutbacks. Leach talks about the financial and political challenges the Humanities are encountering and he looks at the future of the arts.

Plus, we hear from author Calvin Trillin who is at Dartmouth College this week as part of the Montgomery Endowment February Lecture Series on Food. The theme of this month’s lectures is “Tell Me What You Eat, I’ll Tell You Who You Are.” Trillin is known for writing about the American vernacular and regional food.
