Personal finance has become more complex, making it even more critical for people to understand how to manage their money. Monday on Vermont Edition, we look at financial literacy and an ambitious program at Champlain College that attempts to improve what Vermonters understand about saving and investing, credit and debt.

John Pelletier of the college’s Center for Financial Literacy is our guest to discuss a program that aims to raise the financial awareness of all age groups in the state, from kids to adults. We also speak with Gerri Walsh of the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, which has studied Vermonters’ level of financial literacy, and Tom Leavitt of Merchants Bank, who says they want customers to be more savvy about finances.

Also in the program, flooding and saturation have caused more mudslide activity than usual in our region. State Geologist Larry Becker explains how landslides happen and why certain kinds of soils and formations are more susceptible to them.

And, a 1,500-mile antique rally ended in Bennington on Friday. We hear from one of the drivers in the unusual Great Race that tests drivers on their navigation skills and ability to follow instructions.
