Debate over the budget and
the national debt is becoming increasingly contentious in Washington. We talk to Senator Patrick Leahy about his position
on raising income taxes on the wealthy, and the potential impact of not raising
the debt ceiling by the August 2nd deadline. We also discuss the War Powers Act
and U.S. involvement in Libya.

Also in the program, VPR’s
John Dillon explains the complicated business deal unfolding around Central
Vermont Public Service, the state’s largest electric utility. A bidding war is
developing between two Canadian power companies to purchase CVPS; one of those
firms already owns Green Mountain Power.

And we listen back to some of
the voices in the news from the past week.
