State Budget and Tax Issues

To balance the state budget, lawmakers in Montpelier
are looking for about $25 million in new revenue.  This week, as the Senate takes a close look
at the House’s final tax and budget bills…so
do we
.  Some of the controversial
provisions in the House’s tax bill include a three year income tax surcharge, a
change in the estate tax, and a tax on digital downloads. 

We hear both sides of the debate from
Representative Janet Ancel, who defends the final budget, and Representative Pat
McDonald who disagrees with the House’s approach.

Also, the Pulitzer Prizes were announced earlier this week,
and in the midst of the awards for The New York Times and The Washington Post was the Glens Falls
