David Macaulay’s detailed illustrations and wry humor have helped millions of readers understand the complex inventions and architecture that frame our world. His books have demystified castles, cathedrals, pyramids and common household objects. Now the author of The Way Things Work and dozens of other titles has tackled his most challenging, and awe-inspiring topic yet: the human body. Macaulay spent six years working on his latest book, The Way We Work: Getting to Know the Amazing Human Body. During that time period he was also tapped for a MacArthur "Genius" grant, and moved with his family to Vermont. Host Jane Lindholm talks with Macaulay about what he learned, and about the way he works. (Listen)

Also on the program, Burlington Free Press environmental reporter Candy Page talks about some grass-root efforts to cobble together and protect large plots of open land on the fringes of rapidly developing areas.(Listen)
