When Tropical Storm Irene flooded the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury, it forced lawmakers to make key decisions about the state’s mental health system. The state’s new system will rely on two private hospitals to care for psychiatric patients, in addition to building a new state facility. Monday on Vermont Edition, we get an update on the changes being planned for mental health care and the replacement of the state hospital. Our guests are Mental Health Commissioner Patrick Flood and Julie Tessler, executive director of the Vermont Council, which comprises the state’s 16 mental health care agencies.

 

Also in the program, the Public Service Board’s decision that Green Mountain Power and Central Vermont Public Service may merge into one utility owned by Gaz Metro. VPR’s John Dillon explains the details of Friday’s ruling.
