Vermont in the national economy

Months of troubling economic news were capped off this weekend with the buyout of a prominent Wall Street investment bank, Bear Stearns. The news precipitated interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve Bank in an effort to breath confidence into a topsy-turvy market. So what does all this mean for the Vermont economy? State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding joins us to examine the health of the state’s investment accounts, and what impact the national economic woes might have on Vermont’s revenues.

Civilian life after deployment

As Americans reflect on the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, we welcome back to the program Staff Sergeant Alaria O’Brien. A veteran of Task Force Sabre, O’Brien has spent the last year working on an outreach program to help other Iraq and Afghanistan veterans get medical and psychological services, and readjust to life after deployment. She shares her story and what she’s learning about the needs of other new veterans.
