Vermont signed its first power deal with Hydro-Quebec in 1985 and in the 25 years since then, the landscape of energy use and generation has changed dramatically. Tuesday on Vermont Edition, we look at the new 26-year power deal between Vermont’s two largest utilities and Hydro-Quebec, which was heralded this month by Governor Jim Douglas and Premier Jean Charest.

Mary Powell, the president and CEO of Green Mountain Power, and Dick Saudek, a regulatory expert who negotiated the first Hydro-Quebec deal, explain the big picture of what this new Memorandum of Understanding means for the state’s energy future, and the long-term relationship between Vermont and Hydro-Quebec.
