People seeking to adopt can go through long periods of waiting and anxiety before being matched with a child.  And the emotions also run high for the birth parents. In honor of National Adoption Month, we hear stories of Vermont families that were shaped by adoption, and learn the many different forms adoption can take — including closed or open adoptions, domestic and international adoptions — and the detailed, intimate process that leads to matching a baby with an adoptive family. Our guests include Wanda Audette, the adoption coordinator at the Lund Family Center, and three women who share their stories of adoption.

Also in the program, the 45th anniversary of the movie The Sound of Music has Vermonters singing and humming along with the Von Trapps. VPR’s Tim Johnson celebrates the iconic film musical in an interview with Bert Fink, an executive with Rogers & Hammerstein, who wrote extensively about the movie and the music for the anniversary release of the soundtrack.
