When the Car Talk guys announced their retirement, public radio listeners and station managers wondered what will replace that iconic hour on Saturday mornings. This American Life host Ira Glass joined the fray by arguing that stations should give a shot to up and coming programs in development. And NPR’s Eric Nuzum responded by explaining the value Car Talk will still bring to public radio. Friday on Vermont Edition, Ira Glass joins us to discuss innovation in public radio programming, and VPR president Robin Turnau takes your calls on how VPR selects and develops new programs for its schedule.

Also in the program, VPR’s John Dillon explains why the state is behind projections in its conversion to electronic medical records. The software systems that have been implemented across the health care delivery network don’t necessarily interface well with each other.

And we listen back to some of the voices in this week’s news.
