Two hundred goats are dead following a wind-whipped fire that destroyed a barn in the Northeast Kingdom community of Holland.
Assistant Derby Fire Chief Dennis Jacobs says the barn was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 2 a.m. Monday, with subzero temperatures hampering their efforts.
They couldn’t save goats in one barn but saved others in a second barn.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it’s not believed to be suspicious.
