Four people who protested Gov. Jim Douglas over the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant and other issues Monday were arrested at an event the governor attended and charged with disorderly conduct, police said.

The protesters turned out at the Southern Vermont Economic Recovery Workshop, which was held at the Latchis Theatre and co-hosted by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy. They were removed after allegedly disrupting the proceedings by standing and holding signs as Douglas spoke to local officials and business members.

Police escorted the four from the building and charged them with disorderly conduct before releasing them with citations to appear in Vermont District Court.

They were: Eesha D. Williams, 34, and Elizabeth M. Wood, 30, both of Dummerston, Jonathan L. Crowell, 34, of Williamsville, and Amy C. Frost, 32, of Guilford.
