Vermont Education officials say 29 percent of Vermont public schools did not meet test standards this year set by the No Child Left Behind Act.

A total of seventy-seven schools, or 25 percent, failed to meet the standard for a second year in a row, and must make changes.

One school, Colchester High School, is off the list of schools needing improvement after meeting the goals for two consecutive years.

Vermont Education Commissioner Armando Vilaseca says schools are targeting instruction to ensure all students meet the goals, but challenges remain especially for students in poverty and those learning English.
