All trails and roads leading to Sleeping Beauty Mountain just east of Lake George, New York, were closed today as firefighters battled a five-acre fire on the mountain. State police helicopters were also dropping water on the fire within the Adirondack Park.

State Department of Environmental Conservation officials say the approaches will be closed through the weekend to allow firefighters unhampered access. The roads and trails are expected to open on Monday.

Firefighting crews have battled more than 70 wildfires in the Adirondack Park since last month. DEC spokesman David Winchess says four other fires, besides the one on Sleeping Beauty, are still burning but have been contained.
