(Host) The Agri-Mark cheese company will pay $75,000 to settle environmental violations.

Agri-Mark runs a cheese factory and whey-drying plant in Middlebury. Whey is a byproduct of cheese-making.

The Vermont Natural Resources Agency says Agri-Mark violated its wastewater permit.

The state says the company took in additional wastewater without getting the agency’s permission.

Agri-Mark also exceeded the amount of phosphorous that it was permitted to release from its plant.

In a settlement in Environmental Court, Agri-Mark agreed to abide by its wastewater permit in the future. It also will pay a $25,000 fine and $50,000 toward other environmental projects.
