Retired Bishop Kenneth Angell has suffered a mild stroke and has been admitted to the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont.

Church officials said Bishop Angell was taken to the hospital on Sunday night after suffering a mild cerebral vascular event.

Bishop Angell was expected to begin physical rehabilitation right away and the diocese said his prognosis for a full recovery was hopeful.

The 75-year-old bishop emeritus served the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington for 13 years and was succeeded last year by Bishop Salvatore Matano.
