Army defense lawyer calls military commissions corrupt

A military defense lawyer is calling military tribunals designed to try terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay corrupt.

U.S. Army Reserve Major Thomas Fleener says the situation is like a show trial that lacks structural integrity.

Fleener spoke yesterday at the Vermont Law School in South Royalton.

Fleener says the military commissions set up for use at Guantanamo Bay lacked rules about evidence and allowed, in some cases, evidence derived from torture.

At Guantanamo Bay, Fleener represented a Yemeni man accused of being a bodyguard to Osama bin Laden.

In civilian life Fleener is a federal public defender.
