ATV access on Lamoille Valley Rail Trail debated

The issue of whether all-terrain vehicles may use the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail was supposed to be settled.

But it remains contentious and is likely to be part of today’s debate when the Vermont Transportation Agency holds a hearing on improvements to the trail.

The subject of the hearing is supposed to be a lease agreement between V-Trans and the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers governing the use and maintenance of the former railbed.

ATV users have continued to lobby for access to the trail in some form, even so they can use small portions of it as they cross from one side to the other.

The trail runs for more than 90 miles between Swanton and Saint Johnsbury.

The hearing starts at 6 o’clock at Johnson State College.
