Audio Postcard: Wardsboro

We continue our series of audio postcards from Vermont towns with a visit to Wardsboro.

The town is a patchwork of winding roads and gumdrop-shaped hills, with fewer than a thousand full-time residents. Before the ski boom of the seventies and eighties they were largely rural people, but now roughly two-thirds of the property in Wardsboro belongs to second homeowners.

Some of the old population remains, though, and among them is Gladys Bruce. She raises goats and chickens and though she’s almost 90, Gladys Bruce still finds a lot to keep her busy. VPR’s Susan Keese brings us this audio postcard.
