Audit finds problems at nuclear parts supplier

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says there’s no indication there were any problems with parts that were not inspected properly before being sent to the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant in Vernon.

The NRC says an audit of a Massachusetts company that supplied parts to Vermont Yankee and other plants didn’t get the needed quality control checks.

Vermont Yankee spokesman Robert Williams says quality checks were supposed to happen both before the parts left the Invensys plant in Foxborough, Mass., and after they arrive at nuclear plants.

NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan inspectors at affected nuclear plants have been asked to determine what reactor operators are doing to deal with the issue.
